Michael Carney Omoluabi and Sel-Actualization

On Tuesday our guest speaker for the lecture was Dr. Segun Gbadegesin. The topic of the lecture was “Omoluabi:” Self Actualization and Communal Responsibility. He jumped right into the lecture and spoke about Omoluabi and other values. Dr. gbadegesin explained key values which were self-importance, discipline, and character. Dr. Gbadegesin also had a drummer with him which had the whole class wondering what is this drummer doing here. He soon explained the purpose of the drummer and how the african drum can be more than an instrument. How the drum can express feeling and also communication from tribe to tribe or person to person.. Next he told us a story about Iwa and her husband and how the Iwa left and the husband had no remorse. However, the man soon realized how much he missed his wife. The main factor of the sortie was value what you have and existence. Also he explained  Self-Actualization and realizing something you have and cherish it until its gone. Character was a huge purpose in this lecture and without character you have no identity. My favorite part of the lecture was by far the story, and also the book about instructions. Dr. gbadegesin explained character, identity, which all contributed to Omoluabi and the values and the lifestyle you live representing Omoluabi. In addition he explained the purpose of education ad how that is a key in college and you can reach far. No education means no future.
